When you opt to lease a new Subaru, you'll find yourself putting less money down, while also enjoying lower monthly payments. While this may seem like a great deal, it's worth keeping in mind that leasing does come with certain restrictions. All leases include mileage limits, ranging anywhere from 10,000-miles, to 12,000-miles. Leasing a new car also means having to keep up on its maintenance needs, while also ensuring that the vehicle itself is kept in good condition. Further consider that there are penalties if you plan to terminate your lease earlier than planned.

After you structure your lease program, be sure to pay close attention to the negotiated purchase price of the vehicle and any additional fees outside of the lease rate. With this in mind, we recommend that you never sign a lease contract unless the residual value or optional purchase price at the end of the lease is clearly stated within the lease contract.

Before considering whether or not you're ready to purchase a new or used car, we encourage you to establish how much you are willing to spend, or to calculate a monthly loan payment that fits within your budget. In doing this, keep in mind that after negotiating the final price of the vehicle of your choosing, you will need to add in additional costs such as tax, title fees and in some states, registration fees.

When it comes to actually securing a loan, you have plenty of options to choose from. Here at Bortz Subaru, we are happy to offer our customers a variety of loan options. Of course, if you would prefer to go elsewhere for your auto loan, you're more than welcome to visit your local bank or credit union. When securing financing, be sure to ask about interest rates, direct deposit and how to provide electronic loan payments.

An Example of Leasing vs. Buying

As an example, if you choose to lease a $20,000 car that has an estimated resale value of $13,000 after 24 months, you can expect to pay for the $7,000 difference, also known as the vehicle's depreciation. Beyond that, also expect to pay for finances charges, and any possible fees. At the end of your lease, you'll have the option to turn your vehicle in, or to purchase it.

If you choose to buy, you'll be responsible for paying the entire $20,000, plus finances charges, and any other possible fees. While you will own the car at the end of your loan, its value will be less than the $20,000 you initially paid for it.

Choosing to buy or lease makes for a very personal decision. With this in mind, we encourage you to consider what your priorities are before making a decision. What's right for someone else, may not be the right choice for you, or for your budget.

Leasing: If you enjoy being able to drive a new car every few years, and are in need of a lower monthly payment, then leasing may be for you. Leasing is also the perfect choice for those who don't mind having mileage limits imposed on them, or don't plan on selling or trading in their vehicle.

Buying: If you don't mind having a higher monthly payment, or like the idea of driving the same car for a longer period of time, then buying is likely the best choice for you. Not only will you be able to sell the car at your leisure, but you also won't have to worry about mileage limitations.
